Aditya Ryan Bhat works with improvised and notational, acoustic and electronic practices as a drummer/percussionist, composer, and curator. A graduate of Melbourne University and the Australian National Academy of Music, he plays drum set, orchestral percussion instruments, keyboard percussion, Hungarian cimbalom, tabla, Middle Eastern frame drums, djembe, Latin percussion, and is always on the search for new sounds! Although strongly grounded in established traditions, Aditya is a keen experimenter and has worked with several major figures/groups in the field such as Anthony Braxton, ELISION Ensemble, Tyshawn Sorey and Speak Percussion.
Aditya loves to bring this curiosity to his work as a teacher, introducing students to the world of styles and possibilities within drums and percussion. With years of experience teaching from primary school through to university level, Aditya has a penchant for connecting with students of diverse cultural backgrounds and learning styles, tailoring his approach to each student’s unique needs. He also has substantial experience in helping students prepare for VCE and AMEB exams as well as for participating in ensemble settings.
